Alex is a global public health leader with over 20 years’ experience advising and influencing a wide range of healthcare stakeholders in the governmental, not for profit, private and philanthropic sectors.
He helps organisations develop strategies, policies and partnerships that improve health worldwide.
Alex formerly led the diplomacy and partnership functions, and the European office, at Wellcome - one of the world’s largest philanthropies. In these roles he was responsible for a global team that built the external knowledge, network and partnerships required for health research and its benefits to reach people across the world.
On issues such as climate and health, infectious disease, mental health, and pandemic preparedness and response, he oversaw Wellcome’s political outreach, ensuring effective advocacy to and with governments, multilateral agencies, the private sector, and civil society.
Alex was a leader in Wellcome’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Wellcome played a key role in shaping the global response through the Access to Covid-19 Tools (
ACT) Accelerator partnership and promoting principles on equitable access for low and middle-income countries. Among other things, Alex was a contributor to the Global Action Plan for Sustainable Development Goal 3, and a founder of the Future of Global Health Initiatives project.
Prior to joining Wellcome, he led an international NGO focused on providing access to medicine in conflict zones and fragile states, and spent a number of years as a consultant lobbyist working on health issues in the UK, EU and Middle East.
